Haunted Houses in California

Haunted House

It’s already October, and that means one thing in the Bay Area – Halloween! The peninsula has some of the spookiest attractions around, from the iconic Winchester Mystery House to a plethora of San Francisco escape rooms and walking tours. San Francisco Honda has put together a short guide of our favorite thrills and chills in the Oakland area, so read on!

Top 4 Haunted Houses Near San Francisco

As a big city steeped in history, San Francisco has some of the best Halloween offerings around. Whether you’re working your way through a chilling escape room, picking out pumpkins with the family, or working your way through the scariest haunted house in California, you’re sure to find something you love in the Daly City area. Here are five of our favorite spooky attractions in the Bay Area, along with a short summary of each.

  • San Francisco Ghosts – If you’re in the mood for a family-friendly walking tour that’s equal parts haunting and history, check out San Francisco Ghosts! Spooky but not scary, this tour reveals the more macabre side of this famous city, visiting the most haunted locations in Nob Hill, Union Square, and beyond.
  • Winchester Mystery House– This legendary attraction is located just down the peninsula in San Jose, and offers a spooky walking tour for fans of the macabre. This beautiful but bizarre estate was built by Sarah Winchester, who believed she was haunted by the ghosts of those killed by her husband’s Winchester rifles. As a result, the house is full of strange and nonsensical architecture, like stairways leading to nowhere and windows that look out onto other rooms rather than outside.
  • Fear Overload Scream Park– Not for the faint of heart, these two terrifying haunted houses have been rated among the scariest haunted houses in California by Forbes. Be warned that this is not intended for anyone under the age of 12, or those who scare easily! You’ll find two spine-tingling attractions – Descend the Basement and The Demon – to enter if you dare.
  • Lemos Farm Pumpkin and Halloween – If you’re in the mood for something a little more laid-back, take a short drive to Half Moon Bay and check out this expansive set of attractions. Lemos Farm is packed with Halloween-themed attractions, including a pumpkin patch, pony rides, laser tag, and a petting zoo! And be sure to check out the Scare Zone, featuring two haunted house experiences – scary and not-so-scary.
